Is info gained from extreme methods accurate?

Torture approved under new pact with Republican Senators - Bush can still detain terror suspects in secret CIA prisons, set the rules for interrogations, use "alternative methods".

Well, if we're just talking about our reputation and image I say yes, the information is worth that. Who gives a damn about what the world thinks if we can save innocent lives.

HOWEVER, I do not support torture. Information gleaned by using less than humane methods is often not reliable and just made up by a prisoner to get his or her torturers to stop. More importantly, torturing prisoners would do great harm to our own Constitution, and our beliefs as a free, democratic society. If we torture, if we participate in deliberately hurting a human being, and depriving him of his rights for the sake of trying to get some information out of him, we've become no better than the terrorists.

I haven't seen the actual text of the approved pact, but I hope that it is more in line with the Geneva Convention than what was previously on the table. Since Sen. John McCain (R. Ariz., former POW) was one of the Republican senators involved in reworking Bush's plan, it takes into consideration the mindsets of war and prisoners of war.

It's been proven that information gained by using torture is unreliable.

Robin- do you recommend "Is torture justified", or "Is putting the US and Israel on the record justified"? i could say that putting the US on the record is justified as i've got heard and study from numerous sources that torture procedures are used. In performing as a rep of the US or Israeli government i'm specific no minister could admit to this because it extremely isn't any longer sturdy politics to be seen to help this. yet i'm specific there are various that extremely believe torture is the wonderful thank you to handle specific circumstances. i think of many defence reps from the US/ Israel could privately admit they do no longer look to be against torture, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that they would not call it that. it extremely is used as a ability to an end and a selection of of think of that it extremely is an action well worth taking if evidently to shop lives. it extremely is for sure one rule for some and one for others. We could have democracies however the government propaganda and spin are nevertheless completely alive and kicking. i'm confident that democratic international locations use un-democratic ability and the potential of the media to acheive their aspirations remote places.

Sometimes "alternative methods" work.
Discomfort, fear and a bit of pain doesn't sound out of line to me.
Severe beatings, electrocution, castration or loss of fingers or other digits, death or maiming, now that is without doubt unacceptable.
If someone is a terrorist or person that has the death of Americans on his/her agenda then they need the information, plans and contacts and I do not think we should treat them softly.
I do believe info can be attained this way.

The Saudis "questioned" a terrorist in Saudi Arabia and he gave them all of the names of an Islamic terrorist cell in London. The Saudis relayed this information to London.

The terrorists were subsequently arrested in London - just prior to implementing their plan to blow up two commercial jets over the Atlantic Ocean.

How would you answer your own question if your family and loved ones had been scheduled to fly on one of these planes?
And, more importantly, do you think if the United States had detained this dirt bag we would have gotten this information?

During this "interogation," do you truly think the terrorist gave up these names in casual conversation with his U.S. court appointed ACLU lawyer whispering advise into his ear???

Sometimes the answers aren't easily inserted into our neat, little perceptions of what we should do vs. what we must do.

ABSOLUTELY!!!These muslims are not US citizens and therefore are not entitled to the rights, privileges and protections given to citizens. They are our enemy and believe death is desireable if it kills Christians and Jews. Furthermore, this ''torture' is nothing more than humiliation and discomfort. If these actions save American lives then I say - GO FOR IT!!
