could be a virus, more likely, corrupt files. do a system restore. click start, run. in the run box type msconfig. click the launch system restore button. pick the date when it last worked and restore. you can undo if it doesn't work.

I've seen this before. It's probably a virus. I can't remember the solution, but I probably Ghost'd the machine I'm thinking of anyway.

If you are using XP, trying restoring the machine to an earlier restore point. In theory, that won't work but it might.

try opening up an application like My computer and up in the address bar type in like yahoo.com and see if that works. If it does then most likely it is cause by a virus, and if doesnt try re-installing internet exlorer or the thing That Guy said.

restart and see if it continues, most likely, it won't.

Also, why does it matter? It appears that you are able to get on the net anyway?
