You have to be sincere, trustworthy, and accept the life of a servant, to get close to their business life, otherwise you're just a gopher/butler/shoe shine boy.
They are generally busy people, so anything you could do to free up their time. There will always be a certain amount of clerk duties like opening and sending mail and collecting bills and paying invoices and keeping books. They don't generally have time to learn or mess with computers. If you can handle these things reliably, and build trust, you may be able to manage other areas or other people for him.
You have to be a person that can always find a way to get things done; resourceful and discreet, with a minimum of fanfare.
Approaching a penny pincher as a business partner is much more difficult.
