Proof:

He is the leader of a country where over half of his own people are living in abject poverty and literally starving. He keeps them in check with his complete control over the military and the local police.

With this in mind, consider he is using his abundance of oil to promote his own ambitions and derail some of the criticism he justly deserves because his apparent "humanitarian" gestures add a touch of "maybe he's not such a bad guy" mentality to his opponents in other countries.

Remember, Al Capone was real popular among the people in Chicago because of his "humanitarian" contributions to the community - all the while executing anyone who threatened his empire.

LeAnn has it right. Remember his government makes something like a billion dollars a month from oil sold at Citgo. Also, he changed the Constitution so that dissenters could be ( and are ) jailed.

He's not evil, he's just sick and tired of the USA trying to strong-arm the rest of the world..... our allies are sick of it also, but they play the waiting game until Bush is out of the White House... then, they will take a sigh of relief that the nightmare is over.

As far as I'm concerned, he is a democratically elected leader of his country.
All the hype is just that - crap.
Of course your right-wing media hate him, he's such a contrast to their own man, who has the charisma of an oyster, but not its taste.
