My daughter goes to school with a boy named Rafael. And I'm in a tiny town in the mitten. If you like it, name him it. It's a good name. :)

I have a cousin who is 7 named Rafael. It's a fine name. His nick name is Rafe.
Origin Meaning:
Hebrew God has healed
Traits: Even though Raphael, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, pops up in most people's minds, Rafael is pictured as a dark, long-haired Puerto Rican man who's a smooth operator and a good lover. Kowabunga!
Famous people with this name: TV characters Raphael of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rafael of Another World; archangel Raphael; Italian Renaissance painter and architect Raphael

What's in a name? It doesn't matter if you're from the Midwest or Japan... if you want to name your kid Rafael then by all means do so. I wouldn't have the name Preston if my parents stopped to consider- "Is that too English?" I love my name BECAUSE it is different. I get left out of door name placards and those bicycle license plates with names on and kids called me everything from pretzel to pencil to princeton to presley but as I grew older I realized... there aren't a lot of guys with my name and now I appreciate it. Tom, Dick, John--Britney, Ashley WAY too common.
I say kudos for picking a name out of the ordinary-- I'm sure Rafael would appreciate it too!
Have a great day!!!

It's different, but not a bad name. Wasn't one of the Ninja Turtles named Rafael?

I dont think you should consider what anyone else has to say about your childrens name. My oldest was the first Christian around and then all of a sudden, there were a bunch of them. My middle one is Zane and people constantly make me repeat it and then say "oh that umm interesting". Oh well if they dont like it! And my youngest is Isaiah and nobody knows how to spell it and half the time they cant say it either. I gave my kids names that were a little different and not common on purpose. I want them to feel special because they arent like matt, john, carrie etc.. I say go for whatever name you want!

No I wouldn't see a problem with that. Who cares what others say do what you want. I like the name for a boy not a girl anyways.

Rafael is the arch angel of healing, so it's a very noble name.
Plus, his nick name could be "Rafe", which is kind of cool.
When he gets older, the ladies will like it too!
