Just spreading the word for all of you who may not know him -check out this video of someone who I think can be called the most inventive and inspirational guitar player in the world right now - the great Tommy Emmanuel. No effects, no gadgets, just talent in abundance. Feedback from you most welcome, so please leave your comments - just be polite.

Be sure you see it through to the end!

Thanks!

Mongo. Of course those of us who love the guitar are familiar with all the players you mention (and I think it is fairly safe to assume that anybody who takes the time to answer a question like mine IS a guitar fan, and so, know many great players). Yes, I agree, Eric Johnson is wonderful. Great technique, style and phrasing. He's well and truly 'up there'. But, in my (modest) opinion, he does not have the range of styles that Tommy Emmanuel possesses - jazz, bluegrass, blues, classical, pop, rock. Rather, he is a jazz/rock player. (Nothing wrong with that by the way!) Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Tommy scares me with his almost imhuman mastery of the guitar.

A+++++++++++

I have seen - or heard - nothing outstanding by Tommy Emmanuel. Yes, he is good - but not great.
If you want to see a truly great and accomplished guitarist, you need to familiarize yourself with Eric Johnson. I have been a student, player and teacher of guitar for over 30 years, and EJ is the most astounding guitarist I have ever seen. His versatility, technique and knowledge of the instrument is amazing.
You should also check out such players as Steve Hackett, Tony MacAlpine, Trevor Rabin, Roine Stolt, Joe Satriani, Paul Masvidal, Jason Gobel.....

He's awesome, but I think as far as inspirational, it has to be this man.
