Not just once, but with regularity. Would you be embarrassed
when Joe next door sees you standing in line at Albertson's
or Jewel's, and you pull out the department of agriculture's
finest?

Who's the genius that thought up the idea of food stamps anyway?
Are they afraid that if they hand out checks carte blanche, that
the ghetto folks would just buy hard liquour and sterno? Don't
most ghetto folks use it to buy snacks anyway, like the lady
that had her cart loaded with every brand ever made by frito-lay piled high as the eye can see?

Does it get you mad when you see "we accept food stamps"
signs, when you work like a banshee, and can't even afford
the crap they called food at applebys for the wife and kids?

I would eat a park squirrel alive without cooking or catsup before

I'm not fortunate, white..I work and speedway with no benefits and have to do
nasty things like sell condoms to greasy
underage kids and stuff...........and the kids
really love squirrel. We fry them in big batches, batter them a bit, add seasoning
and a little nutmeg, and they may as well be eating at Mcdonalds! Sorry, squirrel is big in THIS house

The beauty of it, is the little bastards(squirrels) are free! Free as the wind!
And scampering merrily all over our local
city park! All you have to do is grab 'em by the tail quick, and you've got it licked, though it takes some practice to sneak up behind the little bastards!

antmanbee, you should try squirrel....It's
admirable that you, like me, refuse to sponge off the gov't. I can't even get more than 32 hours a week at 6.50 an hour at speedway, but I never steal food like those
nasty cheese dogs that endlessly revolve
around the grill. They told us that we'd be fired if we ate the hot dogs, cause some guy last year, who was evidentally starving that worked here, used to sneak a few hot dogs at night before they threw them out, and they caught him on camera. I would never even steal a snickers bar if I was starving. They caught that guy fishing out of the dumpster for the discarded donuts
too! What a jerk that guy was!
Seriously, pigeon is really good too, and is low-fat meat.

Calm down. I use them every month. I am disabled and recieve $603. from the gov't and get $48. in food stamps to live on.It is hard to make it and right now I cannot buy 2 medicines I need or anymore food for the month because the electric bill was so high!Those ppl in the stores who buy junk do not care about their health or do not know better. They probably have children at home with nutritional problems also. I wish that junk foods were not allowed on the stamps.I would rather see cleaning products and toilet paper than to be able to get chips, ice cream,colas,cookies,etc. If the gov't would do these changes we would have a handle on the obesity problem a little better. The poor or those who stay on the program because they are too lazy to work need to learn to buy and prepare better meals and not rely on carbohydrats,meat and junk!I also wish there there were better ways to find out about these ppl who continually use the funds that were intended for the elderly, disabled, and for temorary use for someone to get on their feet after a disaster, illness, maybe a divorce,or loss of job. I would think 3-6 mo would be enough time for a person to find a job and would sure be an incentive for more folks to work if they are forced off of the program! They would realize they have to work if they can only get the food for a limited time.Lots of these ppl receive too much also. I know one young lady with 2 young boys she is raising and doesn't get help from the father.She receives enough food stamps to eat steak, fish, lobster,all the fresh fruits and veggies, and sometimes has left over amounts on her monthly allotment. I think that is not wise to give that much money to ppl. If they can eat that well on the food stamps where is the incentive to get off?I would not be on the food stamps if I could work. I don't understand how we can afford to give them to illegals when ppl like me who are disabled and American can only get $48. each mo.Families can get $ 4-600 easy.I also don't understand giving illegals Social Security when they haven't been here working for it.We are supposedly worrying about running out of SS funds but we give it to illegals?Why not keep it for Americans who have worked for it and allow them enough to actually live on.Best wishes and try to not get upset at the ppl in the store lines. They are either elderly, ignorant,lazy, disabled-physically or emotionally,orphans,or illegals who are living off of our gov't.I say let's start revising the program by taking the food stamps and ins. away from the illegals, move to the lazy and take everyone off within 3 months that are not elderly, disabled, or orpahned/foster kids.Have a great day!

Why don't you do a little research before you begin spouting information that you know nothing about. You are hating on people that ran into a little difficulty and you think you're better than they are. Bad luck can befall anyone.

I had to use food stamps when I was younger. I had just gotten a divorce and had 2 small children. I went to school and got an education and got off them within 3 years. No I was not embarrassed. I knew I had to provide for my kids. After I got my education I went on to work at a newspaper in the advertising department making good money.
But there are people that abuse the food stamp system.
I think you should use it when you need it to get back on your feet and then get off it and go to work.
There are people having kids just to get more $ from our government. I think that is wrong.
I think it was used during the time of the depression.
And just snow balled from there.

I hope you feel great about yourself. It must make you feel better to do the opposite and find things about people that you can put down. See people like you always get what you deserve someday. Try saying something positive, and nice it won't kill you. You don't have to degrade people because you are more fortunate than some people are. Take it from me you can go from having everything, to nothing really quick. Also I don't think if you had kids that you would feed them squirrels. It's so easy to talk when your not in that situation. I dare you to try it.. Yeah I didn't think so.

Yes I would be embarrassed. And I'm speaking from experience. When I was little I remember when my mom would send me to the corner store to get some food with food stamps. I absolutely hated it. Sometimes I would take my sweet time while I waited for the store to be clear of customers to purchase what I needed to get, sometimes if someone spotted you buying with food stamps everyone would know about it at school the next day and you'll get teased about it. I promised myself I would never do that to my own children when I got older. I would rather work myself to death than be on welfare and have to face my worst nightmare. That's why I'm in college, and once I graduate I'll never have to look back.

Well, the squirrel could give you a disease and you could DIE. If you had foodstamps, that's a couple HUNDRED dollars a month for you to buy nutritious food.

Also, now I think the foodstamps are actually a debit card so nobody has to know.
The same debit card is also used for all kinds of government services, not just for the poor.

Years ago when my daughter was little and I wasn't working I got welfare which includes cash and food stamps. Yes, I was embarrassed to use them but it was better than watching my child go hungry. You obviously have not been in the situation. You should just count yourself fortunate instead of attacking those who have been in difficult situations. It could happen to you just as easily as it has happened to millions of people, so don't be so smug. By the way, most people are not on welfare for ever most, like me, work themselves off of welfare and into a better life.

I got no problem feeding people.
DUBYAS GANG is spending America into bankruptcy fighting POINTLESS WAR in IRAQ and people are bee eye itching about USEFUL SOCIAL PROGRAMS.

People work all day for temp labor places like LABOR READY on empty stomach for minimum wage and wait til the end of the day to get paid before they eat.
I have worked an entire day on construction site humping re-bar on a SNICKERS bar.

Kid can't learn if they haven't eaten.

Me .....I have eaten pizza crusts out of pizza box I found.
I just don't have it in me to go to DSHS and apply.

But I won't deny anybody food.

Big business REPUBLICAN WAR PROFITEERS stand to make TRILLIONS of dollars bleeding the Treasury and peoples attention is focused on person working for peanuts and trying to get by.

I wouldn't be embarrassed. You have to swallow pride and do what you have to do to survive. I have be fortunate enough not to have to use them, but would if I had too. Oopps! Once when my 2 children were small and I was alone with kids, min. wage job and an abusive husband on the run, I did us them for about a year. But things have gotten better. I am Blessed for this.

if i absolutely had to rely on food stamps, then let's just say i would be malnurished and very very skinny indeed. i'd hold out till i couldn't hold out anymore then i'd go for that. it's degrading for these poor guys, it would be good to try working out a better system or at least give incentives to businesses to accept food stamps such as some extra percentage on top of the actual food price, so they wouldn't treat these guys like lepers when they come in to use the stamps.
