BOTTOM LINE: Capitalism works. The U.S. economy proves it as does the collapse of the former Soviet Union. When you reward people for coming up with new ideas and taking risks, you encourage creativity (which produces new products), competition (which keeps prices in check) and hard work. Contrast that with the Soviet system where you didn't get paid any more than the guy next to you if you worked harder or did a better job, and what happens is you bring everyone down to doing the absolute minimum in order to get by or keep their jobs. That's what happens in many union shops in the U.S. and it's the primary reason the unions are on their way to extinction...

If I told you that you would have a job for the rest of your life and you couldn't be fired how productive would you be. Would you come in everyday year after year if you knew that you would never get a raise and may never be advanced into management no matter how hard you work would you still put in 100% every day. The answer from most people is no. That is the communist model. The opposite of capitalism. Are there people even in a capitalist enviornment who have jobs which sound like that. The difference between Communism and Capitalism is that in a capitalist society is that you could leave a job like that and go get a better on which wouldn't work in a Communist society. Anyone who talks about how the power is held in the hands of the few and they are keeping everyone else down is not talking about Capitalism. Is the US pure capitalism, the answer is no but it is as close as anyone is in the world currently and that is why the US is the worlds only super power. Its not because of luck but because of hard work. That is also who even the US could be brought down if we went to a purely communist system. Without the hard work then America would lose its status and would be like every other quasi-communist country like in Europe with high unemployment and lots of economic unrest.

I think most American's believe and support capitalism, but it seems to me that other countries are beginning to believe likewise China, Russia and many of the foreign U.S.S.R. nations are rushing to get on board.

Visit South Korea and take a look at the difference capitalism can make. South Koreans are taking expensive vacations all over the world while their relatives in North Korea are starving to death.

Yep! I prefer to be rewarded for my own talents than yours.

People in the United States of America, like people in most modern countries, believe what they're told to believe. Most US Citizens have had the mantra of "Capitalism is Best" shoved down their throats since childhood. That, and the fact that there really isn't any Socialism in use in the States, and you have a pretty one-sided view of the world.

I think most US citizens would like a little socialism in their country, if they were given a choice.

A lot of people claim they do not like it, but they would not give up the innovations of capitalism if their life depended on it.
Without the Internet, they would not be able to make websites to tell everybody how bad capitalism is.
