No not better quality in fact maybe the reverse, years ago diesel was dirt cheap when the only thing that used it was heavy vehicles, since cars were brought out to run on diesel and more economically the government just could not help increasing the taxes, they knew where they could make the next killing.

Its all got to do with road tax. In the uk they pay it in the fuel cost. In nz you pay in advance with road user charges for the amount of tonnes you will carry over the number of axels and weight of the vehicle. Trust me those who use diesel pay! ..and by the way god help you if you are ever caught without the correct tax. That and the UK tax the crap out of everything + vat!!

With 47ppl duty plus 17.5% VAT, what do you expect. This means a 90 pence Litre of diesel is actually about 30 pence before tax!! So convert to a less environmentally harmfull method of transport....Oh no you cant, because the government wont commit to nil duty on biofuels and wont step in to deal with trains etc....

It's because the British government are greedy B******s, and at present employs one of the highest fuel taxes in the developed world. for 99p a litre, the operators profit beleive it or not is only around 5p.

We use lost of fuel here, and as a result the income can be greatly enhanced through high taxation, and means they can keep personal taxes on income lower to keep the votes in

all fossil fuels are expensive in the UK.

i heard recently that there is now not enough places that distill diesel, due to more people using it nowdays. so maybe that is putting the price up abit too.
