The best advice is to order the DIsney Vacation Package. It has a DVD or VHS,a computer inter-active DVD-ROM.
I have been to Disney over 40 times. My folks took me there in 1972 the day or week of the grand opening.I have been going there, twice a year, since 1983.
The best time is in Oct. for the Food and Wine festival (in Epcot)
I would strongly recommend getting the "Disney My Way package".It is an ALL inclusive "card",that ea. family member gets, that allows one to get breakfast,snack,lunch,snack,dr... dinner, desert and a alcoholic beverage. The charts on the food kiosks will have the "wdmw" symbols so as you know what you get "Free".You have to stay at a Disney Resort to be able to do the package.I would HIGHLY recommend staying at THe Animal Kingdom Lodge!. And Book a room on the Seranghetti plain. You will LOVE IT!!
If you have never been to the parks,Well, The Majic Kingdom is very traditional and timeless.EPCOT is very educational and has some cool rides! (Test Track, Mission Space are NOT to miss!)
A week would be tops for me.There are OTHER local attractions I go to,Try Old Town in Kissimmee,Cypress Garden's, in Winter Haven.The Bok Tower and Gardens,in Lake Wales,Fantasy of Flight,in Haines City.Of Course,you got Universal,Disneys MGM,Sea World,Disneys Boardwalk,Island of Adventures,Pleasure Island.
TOO much to see? I would recommend getting my favorite book,The UN official Guide to Disney World .It is a NON sugar coated book of all the ratings, must see's, Disney with kids, things to AVOID.
Lastely. My favorite is Epcot. If you go there,Book a reservation at many of the Full service restaurants in one of the countries.I LOVE Morraco, and Mexico.Norway is kinda bland,Germany is LOUD and brash,Canada is like a dark cave.France has 2 Restaurants,Both are eligant.Japan has 3,sushi bar,and several Beni-Hana" like rooms.
Do not know how much you'll spend,But if you follow my guidelines, you will enjoy it.

You can do everything yourself
A package which combines airfare and hotel is the best bargain
Just be sure you select a hotel that is on Disney property. If you do that, there is free shuttle service from your hotel to all of the Disney Theme parks. You can also take a shuttle over to Universal studios (about 8.00/person) That can eliminate the need to rent a car. Look at sites like Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz for selections. Also, Delta airlines is a Disney partner with packages to the Orlando area (we like the Hilton hotel and Embassy suites)
You can buy your admission tickets to the parks online or in most hotels. Consider how many parks you want to visit and how many days you will spend in the area. (Park admission can be as much as 60.00/person)
Also, there are shuttles between the airport and the hotels on Disney Property
Travel safely and enjoy the Orlando area

Go to the Walt Disney World website and buy a package from them. You can choose a Disney Resort, the type of tickets and package you'd like, and then see the exact price. If you get a travel agent or go through another website it's going to be more expensive because you'll have to pay them for doing the research for you through the Walt Disney World website. I just got back from my most recent WDW vacation in August and had the most incredible time, as always. It's such an amazing, magical place, you're going to have such a great time! Definitely stay at a Walt Disney World Resort. There's all kinds of benefits, like transportation to and from the airport, to and from the parks, and more. I always stay at Disney's Polynesian Resort. It's the most gorgeous, it has a beautiful view of the Magic Kingdom and Cinderella Castle across the Seven Seas Lagoon, and it has the highest return rate of all the Disney Resorts. When we went in August we booked the Platinum Package. Everything was included- breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack per person per day, tickets with the park hopper and water park fun & more options, unlimited use of recreation and tours, tickets to Cirque du Soleil: La Nouba, Fantasmic!, and passes to the V.I.P. viewing areas at Wishes Nighttime Spectacular and Illuminations: Reflections of Earth, a fireworks cruise, spa treatments, etc. It was well worth the money (just over $9,000 for two of us.) You can also get airline tickets included in the package if you want. It's very helpful to use the Walt Disney World website. You can get everything you need through the website, and because you're ordering straight from the Disney Company, you don't have to worry about any mistakes during the reservation process.
Have fun!

The best way is going through a travel agent, that way you can get a complete package that will include , air, hotel and theme park tickets, also if you are flying in, the transferes from the airport to the hotel and to the theme parks will be included in your package. You won't even need to rent a car. Sometimes its best to stay right outside the main gate of Disney, that way you are not stuck in just Disney, most of these hotels offer discounted theme park tickets and the hotel rates are usually cheaper, some even include free meals for kids.

You can do it yourself with just a little bit of effort by going to the Disney web site. I recommend staying at one of the Disney properties because you can get into the theme parks an hour earlier than the rest of the public, plus they are very convenient and provide all the transportation you need.

honestly,
if you are using a travel agent----ask about other places aside from universal or disney....and get tickets/reservations etc.
but, i would just book with disney (less expensive and more "inclusive") or universal. with disney, you are paying for the convienence of restaurants, transportation, and you are right near a lot of the action.......and depending on which resort you might stay in, you could possibly get a view of fireworks at night.
if it's for you and friends---it makes going out a lot easier.
if it's for you and family---it makes going out a lot easier--unless you have very little ones, then...in all honesty, wait until they are about 6 or 7.

I use hotels.com or travelocity.com. However, I would advise you to take the time to research every hotel on tripadvisor.com. It's a magnificent forum where you can find traveler reviews on hotels, things to do in the area, and you can even post specific questions. I have used that site to help plan every trip I have taken in the past few years and it's candid and helpful.

I can recommend a hotel just outside the Animal Kingdom. You should buy tickets at the Disney Store before you go because they are cheaper.

Ask friends and family and see if anyone can recommend a travel agent. If you can't find one, then try a website like Expedia. We set up a vacation this past June for Disney and it was pretty painless. Expedia did everything for us.
