There are scientific methods in which you can conclusively identify a child's gender after conception. However, these methods require that gestation reach a certain point before administring the tests. The two that I know of are amniocentesis and chorionic villi testing. These tests are NOT used to determine gender but to rule out genetic defects for example spina bifida, chromosomal anomalies, genetic profiling, etc. Both are moderately risky and can cause miscarriage and therefore only performed when absolutely necessary. Chorionic villi sampling can be performed at 12 weeks and amniocentesis is usually performed at 15-20 weeks of gestation.

Another not so scientific method is the Chinese Gender Calandar (which was actually accurate for all of my children ;) ). This calendar uses the lunar age of the mother and month of conception to determine sex. It's fun but I wouldn't hold a lot of faith in this since it's not conclusive.

The most important thing in pregnancy is to have a healthy baby regardless of gender. There's a lot of information available to you on the web and through your medical provider. Good luck!

BTW, ultrasound scans can be wrong since it requires human interpretation. I've had a couple of friends who were told they were going to have a girl and it turned out that they had boys.

Well, there are people who swears by the old ways of determining what baby you are going to have. Like, if you are real huge and your stomach is wide and big and you look like you are caring more then just one child, it must be a boy.
But, if you are pregnant but look 3 months but in reality are 6 months, then you must be carrying a girl. Everybody either has a relative that still does that or are doing that themselves.
but, there are ways of finding out not too long after conception what gender is more dominating in your womb. I heard about this over here in the New York area of women wanting to find out real early what gender baby they are carrying.
But, there are some people who knows what they are carrying and it turns out right.

There are no ways to predict the gender AFTER conception (there are questionable methods that allow you to determine the sex PRIOR to conception -google the shettles method) except via ultrasound & amniocentesis...however, scientists are working on tests to determine gender via a sample of the woman's cervical mucous.

if you know the conception date you can use a chinese gender calender, Do a search on google and you will find one. I put in the dates of my daughter and it said I was having a girl, it was right for me!!

Good luck and I hope it is what you want. I am sure when he/she arrives you will love them no matter what sex they are and just happy that they are healthy.

Follow your maternal instincts. I always knew I was having a boy, I don't know why, it was just a feeling. I had to wait 19 long weeks to confirm it and when I had my ultrasound, there is was a baby boy. I just knew it. I never cared for the sex, we just wanted to have a baby and we prayed to God every day that it was a healthy baby but every time I thought of my baby I used to think of it as a baby boy.
