Say no and remove him from the situation. Don't smile back at him when he smiles or he will think it is a game. Good luck!

at a year old they are barely even grasping the concept, they dont really deserve punishing or timeoouts and what not until they are about 2. My son is 2 and a half and still just does whatever when i tell him no, but he has totally learned what the words time out mean. But half the time he doesnt care if he goes in a timeout anyways. Boys will be boys, they are CRAZY and NOT AFRAID TO DO ANYTHING, and RUTHLESS at a young age. well really thru out life, lol. im not sure if you have a girl or not but OH MY DEAR GOD they are an amazing difference. Good luck, i say raising boys are the most difficult challange of life.

i had this problem exactly my son is now 17 months and listens quite well i gave him a smack on the butt bc first of all it doesn't really hurt bc there is cushioning it just sorta hurt his feeling a little bit but after a few seconds i would take him and snuggle him second of all a couple of my friends tried a smack on the hand and their children started to hit back maybe its because they could see the mommy do it or maybe it just in their nature who knows? but a smack on the butt a couple times worked and after that he listened he needs a reminder once in a while but thats expected right they will always be testing you

Well, Shauna, I agree with the others above me. Do not yell at him, but, say No sternly and pap his hand. Then explain that when Mommy says No, she means it. Do not smile. Smiling and teoling him No may make him think that you find it cute. he is one now, so, he is at the learning age of knowing the difference between Yes and No.

Don't smile when you say it--that makes it a game to him. Whenever you say no and he still does it then go over and smack his hands and tell him no again in a firm voice. You've probably given in after you've said no so now he doesn't take you seriously.

Either give him something that you know he likes and say something like "Here this is something you can play with" and then move him from the situation you don't want him in.

Or remove the thing he keeps going to that you don't want him near.

u can try your best, but it is free country!!! as a mother you have the right to order him what you want him to do or stop to do, as your 1st baby( also cute one) he is free to listen and obey you, or continue his important playing with any thing his hands can reach!!!!
baby's are the same every where, nothing can stop them, only you have to keep both of your eyes on him to protect him from his dangerous innocent behavior..

You have to take him away from whatever he is doing, and get him involved in something else. It's also one of those things that doesn't work right away, you'll probably have to do it several times!

A tap on the hand and a stern voice can work wonders.

Make sure you use a demanding voice. That should get his attention and he should know you aren't playing a game with him.
