I think that the Senator terms are 6 years.

Robert Byrd has broken the record. At the end of this year it will have been 48 years. Strom Thurmond served only a little over 47 years. Byrd is running again and will turn 89 years old shortly after he wins another term this year. If he survives that entire term and then retires, he will be 95 years old when he retires and will have served for 54 years. (But Ted Kennedy is about 14 years younger than Byrd and Teddy could out-do Byrd.)

All senators terms are the same, but if you are asking who served longest in the senate then the answer is Byrd from West Virginia, he just surpassed Strom Thurmand Of South Carolina, a few weeks ago.
