There are next to no jobs of Homeworking and the likes. There are several reasons for this.
Think about it as if you were a company. Would you send your expensive stock to an address that you had no confirmation of existing unless you have time to go there, and you still have no confirmation that they live there or will be there indefinetly, for the prospect that they might perform your task, on time and not just bin it all and split, or bin it all and get more, or take too long, or any other ideas.
Take envelope stuffing:
Leaflets to print cost maybe hundreds or Thousands of pounds, envelopes cost more money, labels more money. All this money that a company would be risking sending to someones house.
Then there is the issue that the private details of the clients of the company is going off a company premises, which as well as being risky is in potential violation of the Data protection act UK 1998 (Private data must be carefully protected by the company, if it is off premises, they loose some of the control of it), still guarantees that the Job will be done.
Lets do Data Entry:
Your a reputable company with a global customer base. Would you send your valuable customer Information to a random house for a stranger to look after. and Proccess it in some way.
Doing that would contravene the Data Protection act 1998 (The data is outwith their control, so could be seen as breaching the Act) and you would have to possibly pay to insure house as a place of Business.
Telesales:
Some Random company offers you a job where you phone a database of numbers trying to offer the products of that company to the General public. Trouble is, when you go to claim your phone expenses, the company has Ceased to be.
These all seem legite on the face, or like good Business ideas, but there are flaws or other reasons that it can’t be possible.
Why not just go and get a job like most normal people, or change your living habits to live within your salary. Or you could start a Business, But thats a different subject.

Contrary to the former answers, MJ, all you need to do is some research and you will find reputable companies. Some do require start up fees which supply you with the tools you need to get your business up and running (ie. website, training, guidelines, lead generation, advertising tools, etc.) My company has been in business for 6 years, is based in the US and just went international. We have several associates in the UK and will be opening a UK office very shortly. I would be happy to assist you in getting more information about my company so that you can make a more informed decision. What I look for when I speak to someone serious about a homebased business is a professional-minded person with a strong desire to achieve their personal and financial goals. I am happy to work with you if you have these qualities and feel this is the right fit for you. You may contact me directly for more information or you may fill out the form on my website and I will contact your shortly.

I've been scammed many a time over the last 14 months, and have signed up for data entry, paying a fee of about £50 upfront, I've done Clickbank affiliate stuff, paid to read e-mail....need I go on?? Anyway here's my conclusion and what I'm now doing.
I joined 11 sites offering surveys - none of them cost a penny to join. I did this about 4 weeks ago and so far have earnt around £70. Not riches but I hope to be invited to more surveys in the future, plus didn't take me long to fill them out anyway.
I also narrowed down the paid to read e-mail sites to just two that are worthwhile. Each pay a minimum of 5 cents a mail so more realistic for payout unlike some that pay 0.01 cent per mail! Total earnings to date around £45, which is fine as I don't sit and read the mail, I let it do it's own thing.
I have joined about 4 sites that offer literally free stuff in the UK, usually samples but also money back/cash offers etc. I've saved over £200 thro' offers, I've received countless freebies including make up (£28), jewellry (about £35), loads of beauty products and a £25 voucher for clothes at Tesco lol.
But this is the only thing that earns me a regular income that is worth anything, in my opinion - I set up my own ironing business from home. I placed ads on all the free sites I could find, such as Viva Street. I already owned the iron and ironing board so all I needed to purchase were plastic coverings and bulk buy wire hangers. I offered an introductory price dirt cheap for first bin bag full and thereafter a lot higher price, with free delivery/collection.
Since starting 4 weeks ago I have 7 regular customers already, plus 5 that call me as and when their ironing pile is too scary for them to deal with! To date I've taken just under £520.
Sorry for the rambling answer but really I wanted to warn you that much of what you see online is a scam. Please don't ever part with money, no matter how good the ad seems.
One other suggestion which I'm going to try as seems may be worth a shot is contacting local companies that assemble goods and asking if they'd take on home based workers.
The sites I've provided DO NOT pay me to "refer" you, I gain absolutely nothing from you looking at them!
Whatever you do, good luck :)

Hello MJ, Yes there are plenty of Home Businesses, MLM Companies and Internet Business out there, and they are ethical and legal.
But there are also the scams etc. so be carefull as to what you get involved in.
Do your research, visit a business to business site like this one, its FREE to register and you can view 1000s of UK or worldwide business opportunities, speak to the business contacts by mail etc. You can also submit your own profile about yourself explaining what it is you would like to do etc.
Once you have chosen your ideal business, you need to know how to build your buisness...How are you going to do that ?
Done correctly, you will reap the rewards...
Done the wrong way, you will make very little or nothing
Learn about Network Marketing and the business you chose...
Is not usually the company that is at fault, but the person involved i.e YOU... so work at it and you will succeed
If you would like more info to help you in your choice, mail me by all means
good luck

This is for people that are serious and who don’t want to be misled as we have tried many things and have found a company that has been around for 21 Years and pays you to advertise for them. My wife and I just started and are doing well. It is not an MLM company and no selling, no deliveries or stocking product. My wife’s aunt has been working with this Company (Melaleuca) for a little over 3 years and home schools 3 kids and makes $9,000 a month. It is a 500 Inc company and the CEO is on the U.S. Chamber of commerce board. I can arrange a web cast with my wife’s aunt for you and you can decide by yourself and WE WILL help you be successful. It is an honest Win Win.
If you want to see a web cast (presentation) from your home let me know and I will arrange it as that truly is the way to see all about Melaleuca. Have you heard of it. We have just gotten started with my wife's aunts help as it is a team effort and it is fun. Just a quick F.Y.I. 8 out of 10 people that see the web cast join the company and 95% of the people that join re-order product each and every month. Let me know when you are ready and we will set up the web cast.
e-mail: cleanandsafehome@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Rich & Teresa

Be very cautious about working from home. Check out the scams first. If you are asked to pay cash upfront, DO NOT DO SO. There are firms offering typing and data-entry from home. Be cautious. Take great care to find out as much about any company who will employ you as you possibly can. Check them out on the Internet. DO NOT PART WITH ANY CASH, EVER.

This sounds extremely shaddy, and unfortunately pretty typical of the kinds of jobs you find on Careerbuilder. They basically let any employer not matter how shaddy post a job on their site as they make money no matter what. I would recommend against pursuing this job or taking any further action regarding this job.
