RSVP may refer to:

1* "Répondez s'il vous plaît", a French phrase that translates to "Respond please."

2* Rapid Search via Paging, a primitive search technique where content is bucketed into parts, each called pages and is paged or swapped in and out of limited computer memory on older computers

RSVP=respondez s'il vou plait = please respond. Usually RSVP is found on an invitation. The person inviting you needs to know if you plan to attend, probably to allow them to make the necessary preparations. A worse case scenario would be where 100 people were invited to a party and only 50 showed up. Then the host has spent money and made preparations for too many people. If everyone responds to the invitation, then the host knows for how many people they should prepare.
