1 A plan with a back up plan in case acting doesnt work out
2 You are going to need to network to get your name out so you need connections in the business
3 A really damn good agent you better get some recommendations

2) The next biggest is that you can't get a job in Canada without being a citizen or having a tough-to-get work permit
3) Finally if you do go to LA and get the typical job that would be available there you will need to be able to say "Do you want anything else or should I bring the check now?" [and that is not kidding - ask your waiter or waitress what is their "real job" and they will tell you they are actors, but don't have a job right now].

Don't expect to be a working actor..
It's easier to be a working actor in NYC than L.A.
Everyone in L.A. is an actor.
L.A. is an expensive place to live.
If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
Stay home and be a local "working actor."
L.A. is a great place to vacation, but, it can eat you alive. Many sad stories about girls that move to L.A. to be an actpr . . .
Always have enough money for your return trip home.
Call mom and dad, tell them you made a big mistake.

How to wait tables, because you'll be doing that a lot more than acting. How to go to school so you can have something to fall back on when your dreams of acting fail.
