I want to pawn a ring. It was an engagement ring, and since the engagement ended, I really just want to get rid of the ring, any advice on how to go about pawning the ring? Or an alternate sure-fire way to sell it?

if you want to get a good price, don't pawn it, sell it. pawning a jewelry brings less profits because technically, you're just letting the pawnshop borrow the ring from you. they even deduct a lot of fees like service fee from the actual pawn cost. on the other hand, if you sell it, the buyer gets the actual ownership of the ring. he can do whatever he wants about it.

you can visit jewelry stores. some of them buy second hand jewelries. just make sure of these measures when you sell your ring:
- know the weight of the ring
- know the value of gold. usually there's a designated value for a 14K, 18K, 24K gold
- if the ring has a stone, know it's type (how big it is depending on the carat)

normally, the value of gold is multiplied by the weight plus the value of the stone.

eBay is a sure-fire way to sell it. However people will be very wary of someone selling an expensive item, if you have not built up a feedback history. You may be able to get around that dilemma by using a trading assistant.

You may also try taking it to a jeweler and seeing what they will offer you for it. Or at least get an appraisal. You could also try advertising it on craigslist. However be very careful about giving out contact info to people on craigslist. Personally I would only meet people in a public area and insist on a cashiers check or money order.

I doubt that a pawnshop will give you the best deal on the ring.

The pawn shop will only give you 5 to 10 percent of the value. Spend a couple of bucks to get it appraised and sell it on ebay or craigslist.

Don't pawn it if you want to get a good price for it.
