It's sad that in this day and age people can feel this alone and depressed and no one, not even the parents they live with, has paid enough attention to notice.

I don't know what kind of answer your looking for but this is mine.
Without Jesus in your life you have a void, people will try to fill that void with everything from drugs to alcohol to sex and yes even violence and hatred.
That's not stupid you see on their faces it sorrow, they were lonely and had no way out of the situation (as far as they knew).
I am not taking up for them, what they planned was stupid and horrible and I don't think they should be back out on the streets.
But this is kind of like a girl that has sex with dozens of boys trying to get attention or someone that drinks themselves to death or someone that's a crack addict. They are all trying to fill that void, some even try to do it with knowledge.
Their is only one thing that will fill that void and that is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
