There is just one potentially lethal species of daddy long-legs. It was a mutant that was found in a cargo of bananas. So far, though, there's been only one recorded specimen, in Liverpool, and its venom was not sufficiently potent to kill anything bigger than a small dog.

The answer is no.

The daddy longlegs that you are referring to is probably the harvestman. The ones with long skinny legs and that can break off easily.

First of all the harvestman is an arachnid, but not a spider. Unlike spiders, the harvestman has NO venom glands. They are completey harmless to humans. The myth saying that thier the most venomous spider is just that a myth. First they are not spiders and second they have NO venom glands. They are omnivorous feeding on small insects, plants, fungi, and dead organisms.

The second daddy longlegs is actually a spider, but it's venom has a very weak effect on humans. In fact, studies have shown that there venom even has a weak effect on insects. They are also completely harmless to humans. In fact they are beneficial by preying on harmful insects, such as flies, gnats, and mosquitos.

The third daddy longlegs is also known as the crane fly, which is an insect. They look like large mosquito. The adults don't bite people and they usually mate and then die. They are a food source for many birds.

I hope this help a little. If you have any more questions or want to know more about them, do some research and see for yourself. When you do separate facts from myths. All three daddy longlegs I have mention are completely harmless to humans.

No, they cannot hurt you. They aren't chasing you. They are just very stupid, unhappy and confused.

Once they were living underground in the dark having a lovely time eating grass roots all summer. Then there was some rain and everything changed for them. Their whole body changed from a simple leather jacket to a winged six legged form. This was confusing enough: from no limbs to so many! They came out of the ground. More confusion. Suddenly they are not happy just to eat in the dark, but they want to HAVE SEX and LAY EGGS.

After that they don't know what to do with themselves. Life has no purpose. They are suffering from intense depression. They go into houses and flutter about confusedly. People scream and try to kill them. It is all like one horrible living nightmare.

Soon it will be cold and they will all die. Pity them. Don't persecute them. They have suffered enough.

"Daddy longlegs" actually refers to a number of unrelated species: harvestmen, Pholcidae, and the crane fly.

The myth that any of these species is highly venomous (but supposedly unable to bite a human) is just that, a myth. The harvestman almost never bites anything despite its biological ability to, and is not venomous at all. The Pholcidae are only very mildly venomous. The crane fly consumes nectar though sucking, and has neither venom nor fangs.

It was said that they have a deadly venom, but luckily they can't bite us as they are too small. On mythbusters the other night they set out to find if this were true. Somehow they managed to extract the "venom" it made a slight irritation by way of a red mark, but no harm other than that. They also managed to get one to bite a human, again no effect.

There is a myth that daddy long legs are incredibly poisonous but don't have fangs long enough to bite, but this is cobblers.

there's a rumor that daddy-long-legs have the most potent venom of any spider, but their fangs are too small to bite you.. I think that's an urban legend though..
