three days of supplies is what is recommended by the government.
if you live in an area that may flood, buy a life raft and a life jacket. they could save your life.
have someone come and bolt your house to the foundation as it can help in an eartquake.
plan an escape route so if you need to evacuate you will have an idea of what to do and where to go.
these are just a few things you could do.

Supply of non-perishable food and water. Hand tools to help with clean up. Properly maintained vehicle for leaving an area. Medications, self-defense items. Good 1st aid kit, radio, batteries, flashlight, candles, lighter/matches. List of emergency contact numbers, shelter (tent), sleeping gear. Toys for the kids.

I only have to prepare for tornadoes.... I have candles, matches, sterno heating canisters, and ziplock bags ready in our basement at all times.
