Possibly. Maybe not so much the sex part, but the peer pressure that says if you're not doing it, you're a loser.
I think that teenage girls get low self esteem from having sex with teenage boys. The boys are not experienced and are greedy. Girls don't get anything in return and the boys are takers.
Girls get sad that they gave themselves up for nothing. Especially when they break it off with the boy and then the other boys expect it from her, because THE boy told them she would.
Low self esteem leads to self hatred, which leads to depression.

Kids who engage in sexual activities are more outspoken and will say it depresses them whereas someone who does not, but gets just as depressed probably will hold it in and not admit it to anyone. There's lots more at play than just sexual awakenings, whether they get it or not. There may be more rollercoaster emotions, since human relationships are never easy, and its a rude awakening to find that out. Drama queens are everywhere. Kids don't know how to suck it up yet.

No, I think it's related to the deterioration of the American family, where the parents are too worried about being friends and not worried enough about being *parents*. It's related to parents who are afraid of injuring their children's "self esteem" so they do not set solid boundaries, tell the kid "no" and apply appropriate discipline (sorry time out just doesn't work). It's related to over stimulating the kid with soccer and piano and ballet and all the things the *parents* think *they* missed growing up. It's related to having no supervision while watching TV, watching dvds, playing games, being on-line and the kids' life in general. It's related to a generation of spoiled brats who have gone through an education system teaching to the lowest common denominator, the idiot thug, rather than focusing on the children who can and want to learn; by an education system that is fearful of failing a student who deserves to experience failure.

Not both sexes, for girls it may lead to low self esteem, but for it to effect both sexes it has to do with them thinking they are in love. If the boy is so in love with the girl and they have sexual relations and the girl doesnt feel the same way it can definitely lead to depression, but i dont think sex in general leads to depression. I think its more drugs and peer pressure and the longing for freedom.

i could see how lack of love would leave a person with a desire to find it elsewhere. i could also see how low self esteem would increase a persons desire to build it by feeling desireable by another person.
