I know that many of you really dig being a Dem or Rep but can we please get a serious third party in this country going? Whenever I talk with people about politics they usually agree with the libertarian ideals of "leave me alone" the gevernment doesn't need to fix anyones lives they can just barely handle their own problems. I know its a real stretch be can someone tell me why.

In 1992, Ross Perot garnered over 30% of the popular vote in the state where I live. A few years prior to that, an independent State Governor was elected. Our Senators are both female "liberal" Republicans. (Maine)

It is obvious to me that if a candidate is somewhat sincere and presents a reasonable approach to the problems presently facing this nation, party affiliation will become secondary.

There will always be the hard core "vote straight" Democrat or Republican, but I think these people are becoming a minority - at least the ones that are paying attention - the distinction between Liberals and Democrats, in practice and reality, is becoming blurred. Republicans are no longer "Conservative" and Democrats can no longer win on a "Liberal" agenda any longer.

Their constant finger pointing and back stabbing may well come back and bite them on the a**.
The sooner, the better.

Our current political system makes it nearly impossible for a third party, Libertarian, Independent or otherwise, to seriously challenge the Democrat and Republican stronghold on Washington. There are many reasons for this, however, the most compelling rests on the shoulders of voters. Only a small percentage of Americans possess political savvy. Most people just don't take the time or expend enough energy to understand the dynamics of politics, the issues, the candidates' platforms, etc. Consequently, when they enter the voting booth, they vote based on familiarity rather than conscience and awareness. Furthermore, a third-party candidate could never get enough exposure without strong financial resources. Until voters recognize the importance of educating themselves, the two-party system will prevail.

Third party candidates do not get the media coverage needed in a good light to be a real alternative nation wide .
They come in with two strikes against them .ONE from a fast ball democrat and the other from a screw ball republican .
It is hard to gain support unless they have a lot of money they earned themselves to dump into a campaign.
Every union ,church ,and foundation is already set up by the lawyers to assist democrats or republicans .
Believe it or not over 800 billion sits in trusts and foundations that are handled by lawyers and attorneys. To be able to tap into this money for donations means you must be a lawyer/attorney and a republican or democrat .
This is why campaign reform and term limits become so important .
The government should not become a career , but rather a term of service and many lobbyists need to be prevented along with corporations from contributing to campaigns .They also need to be removed from states and wshington all together .
The people need to be able to reach their representatives and not guys with a 50,000 dollar bribe .
Cabel needs to provide the all candidate network in each state plus the presidential canidates wanting to run with air time .
Shorten the presidency to two years so if we have made an error then we can correct it quickly .
Make it unlimited re-election on this basis .A good leader is hard to find .

People like things clear and easy. It is much easier for people to say that the opposition party is evil if there is only one. If you add a third it becomes less clear for them. That and there are not any real third party options.

There are no serious third party options. Until their is I will vote democrat as a vote for a non viable third party is a vote for repuglicans and I will not do that as they have done enough dammage to this country.

Sure! Just get one that doesn't have some weird ideas, get them on the ballots in 50 states and qualify for fed money! Until you can do that I have to make my vote work against a Republican! We can't afford for them to be in office any longer! They are thief's and murderers!
