uhmm....the materials should be the least expensive materials that you can find yet very effective still....

the thing that were trying to filter is just a soap solution in water....our grade would be based on how clear and pure the water would be when it is filtrated.....the materials must be cheap and as indiginous as possible...the materials shouldnt cost much....pleasse help us!!!tanx a bunch 4 ur ideas....

I learned in a survival lecture that cheese cloth could be used to filter river water for drinking. It's certainly cheap, and readily available. I don't know how well it would work on a sink, although it would definitely be easy to install. It depends on what impurities you need to filter out.

Yes, I think it could filter a soap solution, since soap particles are mostly fatty acids, and those are very large compared to most molecules. Just get a fine mesh cheesecloth and put it across the opening where the solution is being poured. It can be held onto most things using a rubber band. Cheesecloth, rubber band, and a jar. Should be pretty cheap, and definitely things you'd find at home. (Well, you might have to buy the cheesecloth, but it's a domestic product.)
