Here's the basic copyright law which I hope assists you.
Anything you buy is yours to copy, play, duplicate and enjoy. BUT other people are not you, they do not have the same ownership rights as YOU. To share music with a friend, is a violation of the copyright. A friend wouldn't ask you to share it. A person whose not willing to pay for his/her own music might.
Regards!

Actually, it is not illegal to copy any CD or DVD that you own. It is also not illegal to rip music to your computer. It IS illegal to distribute the music to other people (whether you sell it, trade it, or give it away). The reason you are allowed to make copys is simply to either create a backup of your CD or DVD (in case it is ever lost, stolen, or broken), or so you can, for example, have one copy at home, and one for your car.
To answer your question, you can legally rip music from your CD to your computer, and then onto your iPod. You cannot, however, put music YOU own onto someone else's iPod. That is called piracy, and it is illegal. Your friend would have to purchase the music.
Check out the last section (But is it Legal?) of the artile I posted below...

You can copy your Cd's for your own and your family's use but that's it.
Of course you can download your own Cd's to your ipod, that is what it's for, but sharing your ipod library with your friends, I guess it's not legal.
A least you have bought the Cd's and not downloading music free from the net, so I think you support the artists and if you want to share a tune with a friend, it's not that bad!

Nope, it's not illegal. People burn Cd's all the time, whether they're putting them on an iPod or not. Only If you didn't pay for them would they be illegal.

It is perfectly legal to make additional copies for yourself, so putting your music on your computer and then your iPod is perfectly legal. However, it is technically illegal to put your music on a friend's iPod (or vice-versa) if he or she does not own the music.

you're maximum regularly breaking copyright regulations. while you're submitting a layout that is going to be yours. Why would they want a layout that copies somebody's paintings? you're able to desire to get a launch for the layout from the originator, however the skateboard enterprise would desire to try this.

Well if it is illegal, you will probably have to turn yourself in at the police station for any chance of getting caught!

I think it's considered ok to put CDs you own onto your I-Pod, but it wouldn't be ok to share them with your mate if he doesn't own them.
