Scrub it down with something that is going to kill the mold, which may be very difficult. Place it in a sunny location if possible too, the heat will kill off bacteria and mold and keep the wood dry so the problem does not persist

The mold is probably deeper than you think.
The only way you are going to get rid of it is bleach, wood cleaner does not kill mold.
What kind of finish does it have on?
Do you plan on re-staining it or painting it?
I would need a little more information to be able to help you out.
