A type 2 valve has its ball attached to a vertical section of the arm and is adjusted by releasing the thumb screw (may require grips).

Bending the arm on a type 1 valve in situ is not an easy job and occasionally cheap quality arms can break. Best to shut off the water, pull the split pin, remove the arm and adjust on a bench.

The small adjustment screw is on the end of the inlet valve and pushes down on the arm, you can lift the arm by adjusting the screw out to allow more water into the tank, or turn it in to reduce the amount

Most everyone just bends the arm to correct the level.

Opposite end of the bar to the 'ball end'.
Usually plastic and 2 inches long. Can always bend bar carefully.

Try bending the arm slightly.
