I have s strange toilet, and I'd appreciate some help.

When it's used for, ah, #1, the toilet will flush normally for the most part (since it's a problematice toilet, we avoid using it for #2). Anyhow.... after being used a few time, the bowl will fill with water and then more slowly drain, until eventually you get to the point that you flush, the bowl fills with water, and then sits. The tank completely refills, and you can listen and hear the slow drain of the bowl, until it eventually empties into an empty bowl (maybe about 10 minutes later.)

I've taken a plunger to this tank multiple times, and it's always the same: following the plunger, it works normally, then gradually, after more successive flushes, it goes back to the slow drain again.

I also tried taking a snake and working this down the toilet, trying to clear any blockage or anything substantial, but nothing. Same system. A normal flush and then gradually the flushes get weaker and weaker.

Any thoughts or ideas?

You don't run a snake down the bowl. You go to the drain clean out and run it from outside into the bowl. Look around outside for a round piece about 4 inches in diameter that is removable. This is the cleanout plug, and that is the direction you run the snake into.

Depending on the house, if it is on piers, the cleanout may be under the house.

You may also have roots or debris in the system for that toilet. Try the snake from the outside first, and if that doesn't clear up the problem, you may need to get a rooter to cut out the roots.

A toilet bowl is easy to remove. Usually there are just two bolts holding the bowl in place. first remove the tank, it is attached to the bowl from the bottom of the tank to the back of the bowl. Turn off the water and drain the tank first. Usually their is a small water valve adjacent to the tank. Flush that water out, and sponge out the little that is left. Also remove the seat.

Get a bowl "wax seal ring". Remove the two bowl bolts, and rock back and forth. lift the bowl and make sure there isn't a stuffed animal nearby in the drain pipe. It's cleaner than you think, but don't take too many chances. After you drain the tank water, and flush the bowl, that will mostly clean out any problems.

After you have finished under the bowl, remove all the old wax seal, place the new one, install the boot on the toilet downspout, and replace.

Good luck.

Years ago I had that same problem and it kept getting worse and worse. I finally found out that my son had flushed a Fruit jar lid down the toilet and it was stuck in the trap built into the toilet. Had to dig with a coat hanger for hour before finally getting in out.
Seems like first flush it would let water pass, the water flow would turn it a little and it would start blocking the water.
So pull the toilet up and check good inside of it see if you find anything stuck in there.

Apart from the obvious that something is stuck somewhere, and you need a "Plumber with a Snake" (the plunger has its limits), there is also the possibility that the builders who built your house "forgot" to install a proper vent pipe for your toilet waste water, or that vent pipe has been obstructed / blocked.

More info needed. City sewer or septic system? Have seen crazy things in toilet traps, pencils, mascara applicators, etc. Somehow these items will lodge and the snake will slip by 'em. Hope this helps,,:-)=

It doesn't sound like it's clogged, you might just have bad plumbing. Call a plumber.

i think its your vent stack that might have debris in it not letting air in to let the waste go down " #2 " just makes it worst.
