Absolutely!
The adult industry has pushed technology since the beginnings of the internet! Streaming video, webcams, photo/video software, content management systems... all owe alot to the adult industry for driving their improvement.
I think that as far as "adult sites" go.... they are essential in that they can be entertaining, can be educational, provide a "fantasy relief", and allow people to explore sexuality in times and places which might otherwise be fairly repressed.
In a small town with no "adult stores" or "strip clubs"... men and women can turn to the internet to explore themselves erotically.
I feel that adult sites for "marginalized groups" such as gays, cross dressers, cuckolds, submissives, bdsm (in general), fetishists.... especially are essential since there are virtually NO "normal" outlets for those urges (especially, again, in small towns). It makes people with those urges and feelings feel less alone and even meet others who are into the same things that they are.
Obviously, there are SOME adult sites which take things too far, exploit models, and practice unethically. I personally would like to see alot more condoms being used in pornography.
The internet is currently experiencing a glut of "adult content" and websites- just go to any adult webmaster board to learn that times are tight... and just waiting for the "next big technology" to improve (I suspect that it might be peer-to-peer video streaming to save on bandwidth costs-- which once developed further by certain adult sites would really save alot of money for anyone who wants to stream to many viewers but can't afford the current bandwidth cost... but I digress...).
I think adult sites are vital in driving internet and computer technology, and contributing to individual sensual exploration and fulfillment (and personal growth).
