The Philippines were first populated through immigration some 30,000 years ago. The first European to 'discover' the Philippines was Ferdinand Magellan in 1521.

ElOsoBravo has the right answer. The history books written by Europeans credit Magellan in 1521, but completely ignores evidence that the Philippine islands were already populated by several different tribal groups who must have settled thousands of years before. There's also evidence that we were already trading with China and India before the first Europeans arrived.

By the Western world: March 16th 1521, by Ferdinand (Hernando) Magellan. in reality it would have been the 17th, and the mission lost a day (date line). He landed at "Limasawa" island, sailing to Cebu the then capital on 8th April 1521.
Magellan was killed on 27th April 1521 at the battle of Mactan, and there exists a memorial to him erected in 1886.

On March 16, 152111111111111.... as Yoyoy Villame's song goes. It was on this day Magellan landed on the shores of the Philippine Islands and more specifically, Cebu.
He brought along 3Gs. Nope, its not about phones. 3gs stands for gold, glory and God. :)
