I have to do my learners again(legal issues) and was thinking of buying a GSX-R 600 (2000) and fitting a GSX 400F engine as it is learner legal in NSW. While i'm on the L plates i hope to heavily modify the 600. Need to know if its legal to do so in aus. Engineering is not a drama for me. Also any info on what range of power to weight i'd be looking at would be helpful.

Legal issues are a result of having just moved to australia. I have been riding for17 years on roads and enclosed circuits.

well, before you become a stain on the road, get the 400f and do a advanced course first!!! THEN get your P's THEN buy a bigger bike!! or you'll become the next pic on ogrish.com!! and another white cross on the roadside!! (easy to change engines notso to change heads!) plus were did you get all this money??
oh and join a club!! (discounted parts etc)

why not buy and ride the 400 and when you are ready then buy a 600 or better. If you do this you will be able to get the newer version of what you want and can simply sell the 400 to some other beginning rider to recover your money.
(legal issues) says to me speeding and stunting on a public road and personally I would prefer to see you restricted to a pedal bike and not allowed out of the yard. please do others a favour and sign the organ donor card.

cannt help you much with rest of question but I am sure it is legal to change engines. All you have to do is get the propper form from the department of transport and notify change of engine no's etc>> I am sure whether you hold a licence or not is not important', unless you drive the vehicle
