Tear it out. That stuff is awful and toxic. Make sure you wear gloves and a mask. You obviously need ventilation in there badly. It will keep happening until you do. There are new dry wall products out that resist mold. One is DensArmor by Georgia pacific. We used it in our basement. For the walls around the tub use derarock or a cement board as the moisture will not build mold. See the following links to product info.

For minor mold spots, Your previous answer was good but she did not mention what kind of dilution with water. I use a pretty strong solution up to 25% bleach. It should turn the spots to brown and then invisible. If it does not then you need to up the bleach content. Do wear protection and old clothes. Don't go back in the bathroom with good clothes until you have wiped the drips away. I ruined many a tee shirt that way. Never waste your money on commerical "kill the mold products" they all contain bleach and not much. You will get excellent results with this simple bleach solution.ON THE OTHER HAND, I have seem bathrooms encrusted with black. That often is because of water leaks or rooms that have no ventilation. If that is the case you may need to replace some sheetrock. Test it. Use a dull knife or screwdriver and see if the areas or soft or crusty looking. Bleach won't help you in this case. You will ned to replace the sheetrock and get to the bottom of the water or moisture problem. One time i had an area just above the tile of the tub. I dug it out and used a waterproof spackle there. smoothed it out, sanded and I walpapered the bathroom. It was perfect with no further problems.

There is two much moisture in your bathroom. Make sure you run your fan when you shower. Check and make sure no water is coming from above the ceililng. Wash the ceiling with water and bleach. You will need to use a primer made espically to block mold and mildew, and then paint. If your paint is high gloss you should sand paper to rough it up first.

Firstly, a cleaning product with bleach in it should do the trick. My first choice would be Fantastic with Bleach. Or Tilex.

The tricky part is ensuring that the product not get into your eyes!

So I spray it on a long handled floor mop that I keep for the purpose. Be sure that you have opened a window or turned on the fan, tho. Breathing in the fumes can be nasty! Might taste bleach for a day or two.

Bleach diluted with water. You have to scrub with a strong sponge or brush to remove the marks. Rinse thoroughly. Wear a face mask because the bleach oders are strong. Ventilate the room, too.
