You probably want to load links or references to documents into the database, rather than whole documents.

If you are going to display the documents on a website, and your web server doesn't have enough disk space to host the raw files, but your database has enough space to contain the blobs, then you probably want to load them into your database.

It obviously would depend on the database and the client programming that you are using to answer any specifics on how to do that.
