I buy all my books secondhand or at yard sales. Also go to library. Call me a tightwad, but they are so expensive otherwise!

Depending on the book, between $50 and $100. I am not a book collector, but I would pay that for a good coffee table book, especially of artwork or a collection of photographs.
Novels I buy at used book stores, since I normally pass them along to others. Text books and technical manuals can run me as high as $75.00, with the average being $40.00 (most are tax deductible).
I consider motivation books essential and they are keepers (but I do lend them out). Motivational books are rarely more than $25 and well worth the investment.

cheap paperback versions of good literature. I only buy the expensive ones if i've read the paperback so much that i've ruined the cover and still love it. I pay a max of 15 bucks for a novel.
