The 50s were all about rock n roll, the cold war, the beginning of the space race and cars. 50s style retro prints are in right now so make some table cloths and napkins from a space age print. Go to Goodwill or the Salvation Army thrift store and buy all the 45 records you can afford and hang on the walls for decor along with posters of James Dean, the young Elvis, a young Natalie Wood, Marlon Brando in a motorcycle jacket and some of the popular 50s movies like Rebel without a Cause,The Wild ones, and also some posters of 50s Thunderbirds and Chevy Be lairs. For music, feature dance tunes and turn your family room into a soda shop or 50s diner. Serve coca-cola in authentic looking glasses, ice cream floats, malts, french fries, burgers and hot dogs. Watch the movie Grease, especially the restaurant scene to get an idea of what it could look like. If the party is outdoors...try to set up the yard like a drive-in theater and maybe rent a projection unit to show old 50s horror movies in the backyard on a tarp strung between 2 trees. Tell guests to bring own lawn chair. Pop tons of popcorn! Have fun!!

The 50's were huge into cocktails, rock and roll, and fun! You might want to have guests dress up as famous people from the 50's like Elvis and Buddy Holly to name a few. Also be sure to get some attractive cocktail related gear. I'd suggest buying something that is a little more expensive that you can use again when you entertain at home instead of cheap one time use junk. Here's a great place to start for fun martini shakers: http://www.homewetbar.com/accessories-cocktail-shakers-c-26_25.html and cocktail glasses: http://www.homewetbar.com/select-drinkware-cocktail-glasses-c-31_45.html
