Does anyone really think a wall of any size will help with illegal immigration? You build a wall, or a fence, they are going to cut it, put a hole in it, or just build a bigger ladder!

Walls, as defenses, worked 500 years ago. It's the 21st century now. It'll be a waste of money, and there will be ways around it! They'll find another way!

Do you actually believe a big fence across Mexico..will work?

My point is, isn't it smarter to help Mexico a better place, so they don't want to leave?

I agree. We have placed a lot of focus on this issue when infact we should be looking at areas that are of the concern of Americans that have to work everyday to support their families. The illegals are not taking these jobs from the Americans, they are doing the jobs at a menial wage that most Americans would never dreams about doing, for example picking crops in Imperial Ca in 100 plus degree heat for 8 to 10 hours per day. I guess some people just don;t get it.

Walls don't work. Ever since the Big Wall of China, The Berlin Wall, the Israel wall. If you do that maybe you need a big wall across the Canadian border as well? And the Cubans entering by sea? A big sea wall? Maybe fortify America to the point of stupidity and then ask gently why school system fails for lack of funds?
And for the P.S. Helping Mexico improve is the only way to stop illegal immigration. If the people want to leave, they will. If they want to stay because life is acceptable there they won't risk life to become illegal in a foreign country.

Yes, it will stop all there tunneling...(not), I dont understand that myself, even the isreali fences never worked maybe it caused them some extra brainpower to get in but if they want in they will come in anyway, the illegals that are caught and deported(which costs us money) yet they are caught several times back here.....so where are the illegals getting the money for the drug lord or smuggler fees to get here several time.....but yet cant afford to come legally...thats what should worry us, steeper fines and jail time for the ones smuggling them in....no , instead we play chess with mexico in trade and hidden agreements like the recent arrest of Dog the bounty hunter.....It a nutty world we live in.....
(Antony) we cant help mexico out, even though it is a crooked country, we'd be mark as the occupiers again......

By your logic, why do we have safes for banks? A fence WITH guards, cameras, alarms, etc. will be an effective deterrent.
You mention a 16 ft. ladder, wouldn't that be kind of a hassle to carry through the desert, swim past a river with?
And you would need a lot less manpower with a fence. Periodic ridebys--remove any ladders. Yeah some would get through, but most wouldn't.

You forgot to mention this.

The reason they want to build the fence, is because of illegal immigrants and drug traders digging tunnels under the border to the USA.

I agree;it's not even a band aid. I've said this before but it keeps getting buried somewhere.Mexico can't seem to take care of their citizens. If they are agreeable, why not annex Mexico.

oh, but theyre talking high-tech border ... it will slow the flow ... and i think definitely, if we are going to be invading countries all over the world we should overthrow mexico to and annex it into a few more states.
...and btw carlos ... part of the plan is to wall canada also.

There is no helping Mexico. There is no helping any other country if they have no desire to help themselves.Short of overthrow and annexation our best bet is to keep them out anyway we can. These people are not immigrants they are colonists who have no wish to be citizens.

As Gen. Patton once said, "Fixed fortifications are a monument to human stupidity." That would include the fence between the US and Mexico.

It will certainly help - it'll help some corporations get even more wealthy.

It won't make a bit of difference in immigration, though.
