There have been women in history who have done extraordinary things, but there are fewer women than men who have.
Up until 1920 women did not have a vote in the United States. It wasn't until lthe 1960's that any real awareness of the idea of equality for women took hold. There were still people resisting that concept back then, as there remains today. As a result, many young girls are failed by their parents and/or the schools when it comes to being helped to reach their potential.
If you consider that a certain percentage of girls continue to be failed by parents and schools, and then consider that a remaining percentage has had the encouragement and opportunity to accomplish more, you also need to consider that these girls/women would have likely been born between, say, 1970 and 1981 (assuming a 25-year-old is finished with most education and beginning a career). Girls born before 1970 were either too young to gain much from any changes in attitudes (if there were any in the schools at that time) or else they were old enough to already have been lost in terms of being nurtured in a way that would encourage their reaching their full potential.
So as of today, there is about an eleven-year stretch of time where baby girls stood a decent chance of being nurtured in a way that more reflects equality. Men have had since the beginning of time. Need I say more?
Even today, much is not understood about how girls' intellectual abilities can be hidden or masked by certain aspects of femininity.
Then too, girls and women must overcome the biological response to them if they're very feminine, which includes other people (including other women) trying to mother them or control them; but when girls and women play down their femininity, they often have to fend off attacks (verbal or emotional) because they are not feminine. Again, need I say more?
and I will say a little more....
Women who have a lot of ability and a commitment to doing whatever she does with excellence, may have every bit as much ambition as a men do; but because of the realities that someone has to devote a certain amount of time, energy and thought to raising children some women decide to sacrifice their own ambitions because once they have brought children into this world they believe they must do the best possible job of parenting them. Throughout history men have never been the ones to sacrifice much of anything in order to be a parent. They are more often the ones who sacrifice their relationship with their children in favor of their ambitions. Part of ambition is the desire to be able to provide for one's family (whether that's women's or men's ambition), but there's a point where it also becomes about personal fulfillment. Women are more often the ones who choose to forego that particular type of fulfillment because they are also usually the ones who care for the children, deal with their education, take care of the house, and manage the finances while also often needing or wanting to work outside the home but settle for a job that demands less of their time.
There has been a connection drawn between some very successful men, particularly presidents of the U.S., and how close a relationship they had with their mothers. So the saying that behind every good man is a good woman may not be far from the truth.
Women don't lack anything at all. The fact that people like you assume they do just shows that for all the strides women have made there is still a long way to go when it comes to people realizing the damage that history has done to the potential of girls since the beginning of time - and this is in the United States.
Just last week there was a Nightline program on that showed how now that Afghan girls and women won't be beaten if they show their face women are starting businesses there and getting involved in the government, and little girls are in schools and talking about wanting to become doctors. The U.S. doesn't have some more enlightened nation to come and share its ideas when it comes to improving understanding of the potential of girls and women. It just has to keep plodding along and figuring it out for itself.
I don't mean to insult you, but I notice your question isn't worded in correct grammar and lacks punctuation. If you are a woman this just shows how the schools have failed you and apparently left you believing women can't accomplish much . If you are a man it shows both that the schools failed you and points out how you lack knowledge. If English is a second language for you then your incorrect use of it is understandable and shows nothing.
The numbers of accomplished women are increasing at a fairly quick speed. I would guess that by the time those baby girls born in 1970 become 50 years old or so (old enough to have had the time to become very accomplished at what they do) the gap between men and women will be drastically reduced; and by the time the baby girls born in 1980 are 50 that gap may be non-existent.
Note to MimiDi: We think alike. I no sooner hit submit on my answer when I saw that many of your thoughts were very similar to mine. Same generation maybe.

I have been wondering myself the same thing and added to that list also artists, writers and philosophers; it's not a matter of naturally born skills, although I agree that men's and women's brains do have a different pattern according to numerous studies. So, men and women do think differently, but that is not the point.
What I've found in an online article a few months ago is that "there is a fine line between creativity and insanity" (I know this relates more to the artistic careers which was my concern and not to the scientific ones which was yours, but take that in count as well). And now was the part where I would say that men are more prone to mental disorders, but since I can't find the article right now, I'll just drop it, cause I just found a recent article that states "Men are smarter than women, according to a controversial new study that adds another cinder to the fiery debate over whether gender impacts general intelligence." :( Oh, "Rushton has left the door open for opposing views and findings that might contradict his new study."
Ok, so this can't be quite answered right now.
That thing with sexist teaching is valid. For a long time women were denied access to knowledge. Just another thought. It's a complex and interesting issue, thanks for bringing it up.
And a last personal opinion, without scientifical back-up: men focus on doing one thing their entire life and of course they get better at it than a woman that has to do a lot more things, including housework and nursing and so on.

Women do not lack the "action" to build, explore and investigate,
Looking for proof of intelligent women? Do some Internet searches for women scientists, inventors etc. As for exploring, sadly, a man can throw a backpack over his shoulder and go to virtually anywhere on the globe without fear of assault, rape, kidnapping and other crimes against their bodies. Women do not have the same luxury because we must live in a world with some very stupid and cruel men.
No, women do not lack the "action". Women lack the opportunity. It is only 2006. In many countries, females are STILL not allowed to attend formal school. Even in America, there is a decidely different approach and outcome when teaching males vs. females. Males still get far more attention in the math and science departments and all tesing, ACT and SAT included, are biased towards male thought patterns.
In America, women only got the right to VOTE (!!) in 1920- the same year my mother was born. That is almost 60 YEARS after freed male black slaves were given the right to vote.
We still do not have an Equal Rights Amendment and it will be at least another two generations of educated, voting women before classroom, taeching styles, and job opportunities TRULY open up for females. Let's hope that in that same 50 years to come, EVERY woman on the planet will have the right to govern her own body, the right to marry and divorce who she wants and when she wants, the right to an EQUAL education with males and the right and opportunity to walk safely through the world, anywhere anytime without fear of rape, murder or harrassment from men.

historically...women have held that subservient to males position, where the man goes and works and provides and the woman takes care of him and the house...it was only until recently (past 30-50 years) that women started to break this mold...I'm not trying to be sexist
