1 Just as he gets Saturdays/Sundays off, you get today off
2 Because this morning as he left for work, you went to put on a load of washing, but tripped over his belt that was left lying on the bathroom floor
<<>>
which in turn, caused your big toe to get caught in the buckle causing sever pain (and lotsa blood- that's now bound in a huge bandage by the way) forcing you to go down to the a&e just to wait for half a day, before some fresh-out-of-kindy-DOCTOR, tells you you will be fine...<<>>
Now to pull this off convincingly, you've got to get it all out in one breeth - yes it will cause you to get quite light headded(no cause for alarm) but this all adds to the act
OR
3 You deserve it!!! - He will know this too, if your serious about this, its as simple as that! :-)
Have a nice relaxing day!!

why do you need an excuse? Does he ever take a mental health day from work. Or just not feel like doing something right now. Sometimes you just need a day to veg and collect your self. you already said that you just want to lay in bed and read a book today and have a rest from all this housework. That should be good enough of an excuse. I hope he understands. I know I do.

I have my office at home, so I work at home, so sometimes I don't get time to do all my house work in one day or some days I just want a break . If my partner ever comments on how much I have done, I just say to him the day he does more housework in our home than I do, then he can comment on what I didn't do, you shouldn't have to find an excuse. Just tell him you didn't feel like doing It, whats he going to do, get the house work police on to you

Tell him, if he doesn't help you around the house, then you are just going to leave it. Or just make it fun, it can be fun. You can still read and do what you want, just pace your day out. Take the whole day to do what you need to do. Just have it done by the time he gets home from work. It means you get the best of both worlds. It is just planning my dear.....good luck

Take a vacation day! At almost every workplace employee;s are given sick days and vacation days...why should it be any different when your at home? I sometime just "take the day off" or call it a personal day! You don't need an excuse, just go for it! Enjoy your day!!!!!!

As long as the above household chores weren't mentioned in your wedding vows, there is no need for an excuse. Why do we presume that its the females role anyway?

Allergies.
Cramps.
Getting Dizzy.
Drunk (I do not recommend this)
In pain (you cleaned out something, slipped on a banana peel and fell headfirst. What's to work about?)
Or better yet, just tell him you don't feel like it. If he loves you ever so much, he'll understand.

Tell him you are on Strike for the day.
No really, just tell him you need a break and are taking one today.
Have fun!

Everyone is entitled to a vacation day. Have a few beers while you are reading your book.
