Help!!! I purchased a new A/C unit four months ago and last night it kept turning on and off and would not cool my house. What could this be? Could I damage the unit by trying to keep it running? Filter has been changed regurlaly and the inside unit runs as normal. Digital Thermostat is working properly.

It sounds like you may be low on freon. they may not have gotten all the fitting tight when they put it in. If you have a lot of lawn clippings, etc. around your condensor coils it may be cycling on the high limit too, it builds up too much head pressure then and shuts itself off. The same with the low limit if you are low on freon.

turning on and off like you describe most likely is a low freon charge. the low pressure switch is shutting off the compressor. yes it can damage if allowed to go to long. you are under warranty and need to call the installer back

It could be a bad contactor if its the outside unit turning on and off. Low refrigerant could also be the cause.
I advise you turn it off and call the installer right away.

Either that or it may have just been froze up. Let in be off for a couple of hours and then try again.
