The word homosexuality describes a sexual desire exclusively for others of the same sex or gender. Since the word was invented in 1869 by Karl-Maria Kertbeny, the word has influenced the development of the modern concept of sexual orientation, gaining associations with romantic love and identity in addition to its original, purely sexual, meaning.

Homosexuality is usually contrasted with heterosexuality and bisexuality. The term gay is used predominantly to refer to homosexual males. Lesbian is a gender-specific term that is only used for homosexual females. The adjective homosexual is also used for same-sex sexual relations between persons of the same sex who are not gay or lesbian. Three major forms of homosexual relationships are proposed by anthropologists: egalitarian, gender-structured, and age-structured. Of these, one is usually dominant in a given society at a given time. (See Forms below.) As there are different biological, historical and psychosocial components to sex and gender, no single label or description will fit all individuals. Is this a joke? As much garbage as you hear about it? We are forced to endure it on TV, etc. It's everywhere,I tell you. But for all of you who have been asleep for the last 20 years, homosexuality is the practice of having a close interpersonal relationship (love, sex, etc.) with a member of the same sex. In kind, the very first sign of AIDS is a hard pounding between the cheeks of your rear end.

Why are there any "isms" in the question?

What's heterosexualism? Or blondeism? You question makes no sense...

Sexual orientation varies, just like like hair color, height, etc. People are sexually attracted to whomever they are attracted to- it's that simple. Whether they choose to pursue such a relationship is another, often complex issue which will vary depending upon where on earth they happen to live & the local customs and norms of the society they live in.

Obviously heterosexual pairings enable propagation of the species, no different for humans than anywhere else in nature...
