Stupid question: I need to do make some solutions and need to know where to get DISTILLED WATER. Is this the same as bottled water like you get from Walmart?

The previous answer was correct about what distilled water is. You can get it at most drug stores. I am sure Walmart carries it, look in the pharmacy area. Also auto parts stores used to carry it.

I live in another country and use a distiller for drinking and cooking water. Both are clean water, but I think distilled water is the only one truly free of other minerals. The bottled water may not be. Just a guess though.

yes bottled water will normally have all kind of minerals in it (sometimes it has a table on the bottle). Distilled contains just water (almost) for some delicate experiments distilled is further purified by passing it through an ion exchange column.
If you're stuck the condensate drain on air-conditioners and refrigerators is a reasonable source of fairly pure water.

I assume this is for school whether it's college or high school. The lab there should have distilled water.

i dont think so. distilled water should be perfectly pure from any other agents. it is first evaporated and then condensed, because in doing so, only the water evaporates, which is later condensed, so there are no other foreign agents.

I think Walmart's water might not be as pure as you need for your solutions.
