The thought travels faster than the formulation of it. In other words, it takes longer to explain the idea than the idea takes to arrive. Therefore the speed of light is faster than the formulation, but not the original idea. Am I making any sense?

Okay, some previous answers provide you with the valuable formula to find the speed of the bullet with respect to the moving observer, namely v = v1 + v2 / (1 + v1*v2/ c^2) The speed of light is 2.9979 *10^8 m/s Suppose the shooter moves with the speed v1 = 2.996 * 10^8 m/s - this is very close to the speed of light. Now, suppose that the shooter has M-16 assault rifle, which normally fires the bullet with the initial speed of 975 m/s (i.e. if the shooter is not moving). Let's apply the formula above to find bullet speed with respect to the moving shooter: V = (2.996 *10^8 + 975) / (1 + 3.25 *10 -6) = 299 600 001.2 m/s Thus, in this case the bullet will still move, but it's velocity with respect to the gun's muzzle and the shooter would only be 1.2 m/s = 4 km/h This is still less than the speed of light, and it always will be - in this Universe.

thoughts are much slower than the speed of light

the speed of propagation of nervous impulses varies but it can be as fast as 119 m/s. Complex Thoughts are usually much slower 20-30 m/s.

compare that to the speed of light through a vacuum that is roughly 300,000, 000 m/s

Test it this way. Stand in a dark room and at the same time you start thinking of an idea turn on the light. Did you complete your idea or did the light come on first?

nerve impulses travel at around 100/m-s. if you burn your finger you will move it faster than if you burn your foot, due simply to the greater distance the impulse has to travel.
