We just put chicken wire around a newly planted elderberry because antelope ate half of it in a day - is there a way to keep them away from it and the other trees planted near the house without putting up a fence? Possibly planting things they like on the acreage they are welcome to?

While it is important to keep the herd population controlled, pronghorn antelope seem to love sage. Everywhere I have seen pronghorn naturally, there is a lot of sage planted as a decoy for the pronghorn. It seems to work. The crops grow, and much like deer, pronghorns seem to like the most tender shoots.

Keep the tree completely trimmed so even the smallest shoots aren't reachable to the antelope.

Place the fence itself a foot or so from the tree - rather than snug up next to it. If the antelope are using the fence to prop up against, attach a "noisemaker" so once they move the fence, it rattles badly..

We lived in Wyoming - those beautiful animals ate all my tulip bulbs, blossoms and slept on our front porch during snow storms :)

We used a natural fertilizer made from fish waste. It smell like rotten fish. We did this in Oregon to keep the deer out of garden.
