Depends on music taste but by the tastes in msuic on this question!

Well The Beatles were the first great band but Rolling Stones i think are better, I prefer LOVE, then Kinks, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, REM, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine there is so many!

I don;t regard U2 great but they are considered great within circles!

But nowadays for bands I only really like Red Hot Chilli Peppers! Radiohead, Baby shambles, The Rapture

In my opinion the best band in history are the Chili Peppers. I can't really comment on whether they shaped music in any way, but they definitely changed my opinion on it. Personally I can't stand the Beatles and one of the worst things about them is when you get to the last dance of the evening in a club and everyone has a sing along to Hey Jude. What a let down! And what lack of imagination by the dj.

In my opinion, there are a few bands that are argubably the best.
Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Mamas and The Papas

I feel that Zeppelin and Sabbath are the best cause their influence can still be heard in many bands nowadays.

Well I'm going have to agree with you. U2 is the best. Bono has done so much for hunger and things like that. I'd have to say that the Beatles are the one that started it all though.

The Beatles band is still selling CD's and making money even though half of them are dead. About 5 years ago, they brought out a CD of their number on hits that sold more then any other CD that year. Has U2 done that? I rest my case.

without the beatles we wouldn't have rock an roll and even pop, or the band celebrity factor as we know it today. So therefore they have to be the greatest.

plus they wrote awesome songs which people continue to cover
(badly)

otherwise, bon jovi and REM come close, U2 you can keep.

Radiohead and the Shins are the two best bands in the world.

The beatles are pretty shoddy. Totally overated IMO, the rest are ok, but not really much more than that.
