In the paper today it says "John Prescot to apologise for slavery"Now whilst im all for aknowledging that the British Empire had a lot to answer for were do we draw the line under history.Should the North American Indians be made to say sorry for all the men women and children that were raped and killed in the 1800s,or the Spanish for the inquisition ect,the list is endless.
Is it not time to put away history and just realise that S**T happens and focus on todays problems of getting along with each other. Before somone shoots me down I only used the above as examples and I have no axe to grind with any race.

The fact that John Prescot can apologies for something as big as slavery but not for his own actions and behaviour is in its self a form of insult to any intelligent group of people or the British..

I agree. It's stupid to apologies for something your ancestors did.

Going back about 6 years to when I was in secondary school, we had an assembly celebrating the different nationalities and cultures in our school. Basically people had been asked to give a short talk on their homeland and culture, so that we could understand it. There were two really disappointing ones: the Germans and the South Africans. The Germans apologised for the war and the South Africans apologised for apartheid. And that was their talk. It all seemed pointless a) because it wasn't their fault and b) because they told us nothing about their culture.

He's barking. Maybe we should ask the Swedes and Norwegians for a grovelling apology for all the raping and pillaging their Viking ancestors did. And then we can start on the Italians for what the Romans did to us.

What a load of shite.

Funny how people can apologise for things they were not involved with, but never sincerely apologise for the **** they do themselves...

It just illustrates how little the Labour party in general does for its citizens if this is all they can come with. It is just a cheap PR stunt! All they are saying is aw aren't we nice!
