Well we don't need gates or windows. The internet was not created by students in america as we are lead to believe. BUt by a company in sweeden (i think, it was north europe).

The internet language of html (hyper text markup language) is a universal language that could be downloaded and run by many operating systems. Its just Microsoft have done alot with it, well alot which we know about. Other operating systems such as Macintosh (Apple, Macs), Acrons, Linux. These all have the ability to run the internet.

But now the corporations are looking to make money out of this fast expanding media becuase their greedy capitalists. For more information go to http://savetheinternet.com/

Because Gates made Windows! Gore on the other hand said he made the Internet so you will have to ask him about it.

We dont, but the technicalities of getting a page of information to collate on anothers screen, the way you intend, wrote it, or predict it to appear, requires one common language and format, of programing, in effect, an operating system.
As windows is by far the most popular, people write in windows format, to be displayed in windows format. You need to understand how incredibly complicated it is to get a page to appear. You are not viewing it like a photo, but information tells your computer, how to make it itself, this type font, there, this bit is blue for 20 pixels, here, of this mix of RGB colour, etc etc etc...your pc actually makes the page, new, from scratch, with the information supplied, even a photo, is just a list of colours and places.
If your operating system doesnt use the same structure, it dosent get the commands, the page is assembled wrongly or not at all.
Even with a different browser, say firefox, a page can look different, to how the person intended writing and testing with internet explorer.
Then there's flash, sounds, animations, video......all written to be uncoded by windows.
Even a different screen resolution, or shape, (widescreen) will have an effect, Ya Q&A fills the screen of my wndows ME computer with 14 inch monitor, but shows as a central bar, with large borders either side, on my xp, with 19 inch monitor.
Just with one operating system, pages are full of technical difficulties, and lots of microsoft ways and programming style is copyright, so you couldnt even mimic it, to be compatible, releasing your own software, if its too close to microsoft ways of showing web pages.
We need a universal language and way, based on linux, and microsoft will be forced to just include a differently formatted browser as part of windows, and this is sort of happening, with the browsers themselves, but you still need an operating system for them to run in.
I see a future, with simple RAM memory screens, that reset themselves every use, sold only for browsing, perhaps with an sd card for saving data, then viruses will become a thing of the past, as the ram cant be permenantly altered, and a simple operating system will be held in a rom chip, to boot from, flashable, only via code, from the proper scource.

Clever.

We don't: we just need red hats!

To everyone talking about who invented the internet: it was Tim Berners-Lee, an Englishman working for CERN (la Centre Europeen pour la Reserche Nucleaire) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Because gates has bribed everyone, so no other companies can provide a compatible version that would substitute windows, you know what I mean.

Who said we "need" Windows? There's many other alternatives out there. No one is forcing someone to use Windows if they don't want to.
