"I just think beauty contests are ok because women are more beautiful than men".

Have you ever heard the first part of this sentence followed by a non-sexist comment? If there's nothing sexist about a statement, why the need to deny it before you've even said what you think?

Todd, I totally agree that women can be as sexist as men. There are benefits that come with being the passive or fairer sex - e.g. you don't have to make the first move or buy the drinks, you can indulge self-ornamentation, etc. But these still stem from the basic problem that women are expected to fulfil this role and men are expected to fulfil the active, functional (as opposed to ornamental) role. The point of feminism for me would be to allow women to adopt masculine behaviour and vice versa without it being stigmatised.

So I wouldn't get offended if a man held a door open for me - but I'd expect him not to be shocked if I opened it for him. Ditto buying flowers.

That's a lovely thought, dear, now why not run along and make us a nice cup of tea, eh?

On the whole women are just as sexist as men. How Many times have I heard 'If you got it flaunt it'
Women have double standards as well. they don't want to be the fairer sex but god forbid if you don't hold a door open etc.

On the point of women being more beautiful than men I disagree totally. Throughout all the animals on this planet the male is always the most splendid and colourful while the female is often smaller and a dowdy colour.

FYI your preliminary premise that "adult males and ladies folk are diverse from one yet another" is actual being proved incorrect by technological know-how. Slowly - the only %. technological know-how works at - we are studying that the adjustments in genders we concept have been organic and organic are actual socially built. it extremely is an old, old argument (Nature vs Nurture) which will take a protracted time to unravel simply by mere fact that we can not separate the character from the nurture in psychological and sociological analyze... no person is raised in a vacuum thoroughly remoted from their society. I strongly recommend acquiring a subscription get admission to to a pair journals (once you're a student, maximum faculties have subscriptions to considerable journals) and actual reviewing the data your self - pay close interest to how careful the article authors are to be conscious their conclusions. No scientist well worth their salt will ever declare something like "women folk are extra constructive multitaskers simply by fact they are woman" Their conclusions are extra like "In geographic area S with a pattern of X style of adult males and ladies folk of a while Y to Z, we discovered a delicate correlation (p = W) that girls folk are extra able to multitasking. We hypothesize that it extremely is simply by fact of things L, M and N..." Do you spot the version? One is claiming an absolute certainty in keeping with correlation. the different is noting the correlation and offering motives for it - no longer purely concluding that the correlation X -> Y is with the help of Y. Yey technological know-how :)

I'm not being sexist, get back in the kitchen and make that cup of tea! While your at it, iron my shirt.
Can everyone please remove their large chips from their shoulders. People will always dislike their neighbour. I dislike mine because he keeps driving onto my verge, throwing his crisp packets onto my garden and putting his rubbish in my bin, and worst of all treating my driveway like a public high way. So I told him to clear his **** up and stop walking up and down my drive and do you know what the cheeky bastard said. He said ' your only saying that because I'm a Muslim' and then he said 'Your a Islamaphobe'. Anyway that's going off on a tangent. My main message was People who claim to have been oppressed such as women, blacks, gays etc... can often cause more problems and be seen as asking for special treatment therefore leading to more sexism, racism etc... Would you rather see a women who claims she was subjected to sexist jokes and was forced to leave her job receive £600 000k in reward against her employer, or a policeman receive just £20 000k for being shot in his line of duty. Personally I feel that's being sexist. It works both ways. People who play the I've been oppressed cause more problems in my opinion. A policeman being forced to retire early or a woman who can move company and get a job anywhere if she is competent. Wheres the justice. That's sexism causing resentment.

Yes, in general I agree with you - when I saw the first part of the question I thought it was going to inevitably be followed by a sexist comment.
However, sometimes I think people say it sincerely knowing that, in these days of extremist political correctness (grr...) they are at a high risk of either being misunderstood, or else slated for holding unfashionable opinions

I agree with your point.

On a side note, isn't it also amazing how many people have responded to your question without actually reading the whole question or understanding what you are trying to say with it?

No wonder our world is struggling.

Some times it pays to be sexist,

yeah good point.
"I'm not a racist but..." (gross generalisation to follow)
"I don't mean to be mean but..." (bitchy comment alert)

also - different point i accept - i think there's an inverse correlation between statements that begin
"this is interesting..." and how interesting they really are
