Interviewing people costs money and takes you away from doing your job. Everybody has deadlines and nobody wants to waste time, therefore if you have a second interview it's looking good. An internal candidate can be cheaper, may already know the people and systems and less of an unknown quantity.
However that doesn't mean anything if you can persuade them that you can do the job better. What did they ask you about at the first interview? This gives you clues about the problem they face and what they require. If you can convince them that you've solved a similar problem in the past then you'll get the job. Good hunting

Since they have asked you back for second interview, you DO have a chance. If this was just a show, they would have rejected you after the first interview, so first and foremost, have some faith in yourself. You must have qualities that they are interested in.
Now to business... make sure you find as much information about the company as you can. Check out their website. Find out if they have been in the news recently. Are there any major problems/ innovations/ success of the company?
A lot of this information may seem useless, but you never know when you might get a chance to prove your knowledge during the interview. So put some good effort in the research.
Next step is to properly read the job description. Then think about what skills/qualifications you have that would make it possible for you to do that job. If you can think of examples from your previous work experience/university/school to prove those skills, it makes it more credible.
Be confident, and enthusiastic. Make sure you dress professionally, and behave professionally to everyone you meet, even the secretary.
Get your point across, but do not ramble. Try to answer their questions to the point, but also make sure that you manage to slip in a little more information that they might like.
For example, they might ask you, "Do you have experience of Excel?"
If you know it, brilliant. If you have a mediocre knowledge of it, then say "Yes, I have used it before, but I would be happy to develop my skills if necessary. I am very keen to learn new things."
Be flexible. Let them know that you are willing to stay longer if necessary, without promising to stay late every night. It's all about letting them know that this is the job you want, and proving to them that you are the right candidate for them.
Do not say anything against internal candidate. But assure them that you can fit in new places very easily. of course, you would be able to come up with more personalised examples from these statements, so have a little think about it.
Good luck, and hope this helped.!

Be yourself, tell him that you will bring a new set of thoughts and ideas to the job because you have not been influenced by the existing workforce, you are more motivated because you will want to impress, you are willing to give knowledge as well as gain knowledge, be enthusiastic about the company without grovelling, but don't be pushy. Maintain eye contact. Good Luck.

Just treat it like you would any interview.
In fairness, you might be wasting your time and they may only be interviewing because they have to advertise the job (even if they intended to promote the person allalong).
If you really dazzle them and you're better than the other person, hopefully they'll employ you. Equally- if the other person does get the job, who's to say you won't be offered his/her old job instead?

Walk in there like you own the place, but don't be too cocky, be confident. You are selling yourself as a product. Show off your best assetts and answer the questions asked with straight and precise answers. If you are going for a 2nd interview there is something that they see in you.....Good luck!

Possibly play on the fact that you are fresh blood. Open to new ideas, highly motivated to be working with a new company.
Hard to say without knowing the job.

If the internal candidate was so good then they probably wouldn't be interviewing you.

Be as professional as possible and not thinking of someone else. If you posses all the qualifications and polite, dress professional, you will get the job even if this guy is working there. BB
