no sound...

i guess you know your way around
find out if there are any device error in the device manager

no error then

check ur speaker with ur music system or walkman or ipod whatever :-)

so it works

now find what sound device is involved in your PC, integrated or PCI card?

dont know where to find?

download sisoft sandra or Lavalys EVEREST Home Edition to probe your system information

got the info about the sound device then
download the specific sound drivers
install them

maybe problem solved

Could be one of a couple of things.

When you restored your computer did you restore it to a point where everything worked as it should? If not or if your not sure you may have restored it to a point where the necessary drivers for you sound card or onboard audio where either not installed or not operating correctly. In windows go to device manager and see if your drivers are working properly. If not you'll need to reinstall the drivers that came with your puter.
If your using powered speakers make sure power is getting to them. The power adapter may be defective.

RIGHT CLICK the MY COMPUTER icon. Select PROPERTIES. For most versions of Windows, click the tab marked DEVICE MANAGER. (For Windows XP, click the tab marked HARDWARE, and then the button marked DEVICE MANAGER.)

Scroll down the list and locate SOUND, VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS. Click the plus (+) sign next to it. Some new lines of text will appear just below it. Click on any of the lines that say AUDIO or SOUND, and click DELETE on your keyboard.

The computer will ask if you're sure you want to send it to the recycle bin - click YES.

Restart your computer. It will locate the sound card and reinstall it
