A blackhead (technically known as an open comedo) is a yellowish or blackish bump or plug on the skin. An open comedo or blackhead is a type of acne vulgaris. It is caused by excess oils that have accumulated in the sebaceous gland's duct. Blackheads are typically caused by excessive oil and makeup. While the contents inside may look dark, it is not dirt; the substance found in these bumps mostly consists of keratin and modified sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous gland) [1]

Possible factors that cause blackheads include :

Excess dead cells blocking the opening to the pore
Excess production of facial oil
Improper cleansing routine, facial oil not being removed
Excess scrubbing of the skin (Scrubs)
Use of products/makeup (foundations, sunscreens, and moisturizers) that may contain too much oil
Use of low quality facial cleansing products
[edit]
Treatment
Removal of the skin bumps or plugs by a dermatologist or certified beautician or by oneself (if possessing the skills to do so)
Use of gentle exfoliants
Application of benzoyl peroxide.
Phototherapy with blue/red light
Frequent, thorough cleansing of the skin.
Using a steel blackhead remover tool called a comedo extractor.
In cases of severe recalcitrant nodular acne, by the use of the drug Accutane (isotretinoin).

Wow you got some technical answers up there. A black head is a blocked pore yes, it is blocked with natural body oils and dirt. The black apperance comes from this blockage being trapped partially inside and partially outside the pore. The air hitting this blockage causes it to turn black while the rest of the blockage inside the pore remains white. A white head is a blockage inside the pore ONLY, caused by dirt and oils in the skin.
Now if you go to Walgreens or a drug store you may purchase a blackhead remover and you may also use a special toner made for blackhead prevent and treatment. Be patient for blackheads are difficult to get rid of and frequently reappear, hope that helps....

It's caused by crap in the air and oil in your skin that collects in the pores. When it comes in contatc with air, it turns colors. Tp remove them, there are lots of products to help...use a scrub, exfoliator or those strips you can stick on your face. But sometimes, all you gotta do is squeeze them out. But be careful not to press too hard or at a abd angle, or else it will scar. Then use a cleanser, so that the empty pore will not beocme infected again. Also, use a pore refining cleanser to skrink your pores and prevent blackheads from forming...I use Neutrogena and it works great. One last advice...it you wanna go natural, which I do almost every night, squeeze some lemon or lime juice on your face. You wouldn't believe how great it is for your skin and it will make your skin sooooooo soft, over night!!! I love it!!! Good luck!
