I don't like waxing because it hurts! I don't know a lot about epilators. I thought they were like plucking en masse. Is that right?
If not can you tell me how they work and if you think they are any good?
Thanks ;-)

They ARE like plucking en masse, BUT if you buy a Braun Silk Epil it has a detachable ice pack (which you keep in the freezer), which clips on and numbs the area as you work and reduces the red spotty look. They do hurt a bit a first, although you soon get used to it - I use mine on bikini line and underarms too. I've had mine a few years now and I think they've now improved the width of the head which means they remove more hair in one go. Can't believe all these people who say they used it once and dumped it! When I got mine you got a trial period where you could return it within I think 6 weeks, if you didn't like it. So much more convenient than waxing as you can just whizz it over whenever you feel the need, without having to wait for the hair to grow long enough to be waxed. Compared with the cost of waxing, an epilator will have paid for itself in about 6 weeks of use. With prolonged use the hair becomes finer and weaker too. For a really smooth finish most come with a shaver head as well. Make sure you exfoliate well to avoid ingrown hairs. Go for it - good luck!

Epilators hurt just about as much if not more than waxing. They pull on the hair like plucking. However Nair has a new product out that you apply, and shave off with a devise that looks like a razor put has not blade. It last about 50% longer than shaving. And does not have the pain of waxing.
I still prefer waxing as it last about 2 to 4 weeks. And I really have not had it hurt. I think it depends on the person doing it.

The result of epilating is exactly the same as waxing - the hairs are removed from the root.

The pain is pretty much the same as waxing.

Epilators can remove hairs when they are still too short to be waxed.

Epilators basically tweeze the hairs out in groups of about 6. You move the machine up your leg slowly and the head of it (which is rotating) plucks out the hairs in it's path. It can pull them out when they are quite short.

I epilate my legs. For the first few seconds it hurts quite a lot, but stick with it and the pain dulls. I find it quick and easy and best of all there's nothing to set up and no mess to clean away!

Happy epilating!

I have been using them for about five years. The newer models work better. They have a rotating cylinder with discs a bit like washers, not the best description! Anyway as it spins the discs close together at the front and open towards the back pulling the hairs out and letting them fall (it's never clogged) A bit pain full at first but you get use to it. If you do it then 3 days later do it again the results will last a month. Plus I have alot less hair now there are areas where it doesn't grow at all. Alot less work than shaving! Bath first to open the pores. Good luck!

I think it is much worse than waxing. At least with waxing you get loads of hairs ripped out at the same time. With epilators you don't get as many out at the same time. I always find it's better to let someone else do your waxing as I find it difficult to do it myself as you are expecting the pain and tend to be more careful about, resulting in having to do it again!
Someone waxing my legs took about 10 mins, epilating it myself took about an hour!
Never again!!

Any type of hair removal does hurt, unless it's painless like a painless laser hair removal. If you want an epilator, go fot the Braun Silk Epilator, because even tho its hurts few times you get the pain sensation starts to dissapear after a few times of use ,, the only problem with epilators is that it might not remove all hairs just like waxing ,, your skin has to be dry to epilate . hopethat helped.

I bought an epilator and threw the damn thing out...it was the most painful hair removal i have ever done....go with laser hair reduction...i love it and its only once every 6 weeks with follow up treatments every six months if needed...way better than a painful epilator

im thinking of getting one as i just think it would be easier than waxing. You can get ones that come with a ice pack that is supoosed to reduce the pain but i think it it works well then the pain is worth it.
